Denmark's first organic hotdog stand

DØP might be the biggest disruption since the French hotdog.

DØP is Denmark's first all organic hotdog stand. It is located next to 'The Round Tower' in center of Copenhagen. Here, everything is free from gluten to make it allergy friendly. The bread is whole grain. And even low fat chicken sausages are available.

DØP is short for 'The Organic Hotdog Stand'. It was founded in 2009, and in 2010, DØP sold approximately 100.000 sausages. Today, DØP also serve sausages at events such as the Roskilde Festival.

Claus Christensen is Founder & Owner of DØP. He has a Bachelor in Nutrition & Health and a mission to introduce healthier fast food in a rather conservative market.

ABCity - an edutainment universe for kids

Danish ABCity rolls out after five years of preparation.

ABCity is an edutainment universe for kids consisting of an online computer game, music, books, and many other things. The target group is children aged 4-7 and their transition from kinder garden to school.

ABCity set out as a computer game alone, but hard work on story telling opened for a lot of other platforms as well. The team behind spent endless hours building the 29 characters in the universe - one for each letter in the (Danish) alphabet.

ABCity was founded in late 2006, and the computer game - the first release from the universe - launched in spring 2011.

Tav Klitgaard is Founder & CEO of ABCity. He has a background in music, and he has spent the last many years working with the dynamics between IT and teaching.

Kipper Digital was founded by three IT students: Mads Peter Vedsten Larsen, Magnus Poppel, and Klaus Kabel Kristensen. They met during courses at IT University of Copenhagen. The idea for Paul & Percy was developed during summer 2010.

AppFuel leads user-donations to developers

New way of donating money for specific apps and features.

AppFuel is a Copenhagen based startup with a mission: Taking the business hassle out of being a developer. Users shall be able to donate money directly to developers, and have that money marked for specific applications or features. This way, developers can start working on projects that have already been funded.

AppFuel was formerly known as 'Fundr'. It was founded by four students, Tim Garbos, David Kofoed Wind, Malthe Jørgensen, and Helge Munk Jacobsen.

AppFuel is currently in Alpha. It is set to launch in autumn 2011.

Danish IT startup converts software for online use in 48 hours.

Roozz started in 2008 as a side project between developers Thomas Jam Pedersen and Andrew Obraztsov. They wanted a system that could run .exe-files directly in the browser. In 2010, Roozz was founded as a company.

Roozz has developed a method to convert software such as work applications or computer games for online use in approximately 48 hours - without use of the source code. This makes it fast and convenient for publishers to engage their software with a new market.

Thomas Jam Pedersen is Founder & CEO of Roozz. He has 10 years of experience in the software industry at IBM, Nordea, and Nokia among others.

Jesper Wendel Thomsen is Head of Sales & Marketing at Roozz. He has a background of more than 10 years with Maersk working largely in product management and operations on local, regional and global levels.

Shape hit break-even in one month

Danish Shape has proven to be a remarkable business case.

Shape's lifetime is not yet to be counted in years. Founded in June 2010, the company has grown exponentially due to a series of successful apps.

Their first app - Expenditure - made it possible to go from 4 employees to 14 in less than a year. Expenditure is an expense tracker developed for iPhone. It was in top of it's category in Apple Rewind 2010 and has been awarded the FWA Mobile Award.

Shape's latest big project is an iBooks clone for Gyldendal - Denmark's largest and oldest publishing house.

The idea behind esthetic concrete was created by textile designer Line Kramhøft. The concrete is produced by Spæncom. It has undergone a test on Aalborg Portland's Accelerated Aesthetic Ageing Device (a 3AD-test), and according to the results the esthetic concrete ages like normal concrete.

Growing demand for Danish speciality beers despite crisis.

The Danish market for speciality beers is flourishing. This is a gift for those breweries making it. One of those is situated on Amager, a small island just outside Copenhagen.

Amager Bryghus was founded in 2006 by the two friends and home brewers Morten Valentin Lundsbak and Jacob Storm. Today, they produce 90,000 liters of beer every year. However, they hope to double the production in 2011.

Podio goes live with a blast!

Friday September 3rd Podio was announced loud, proud and clear.

Podio, a new social and collaborative work tool, wants to alter the way people work.

Podio was started in Denmark early 2009 by Anders Pollas and Jon Froda. The stealth project was then named, Hoist. Later that year Kasper Hulthin joined the founding team. Thomas Madsen-Mygdal and Ulrik Jensen provided support to the team with seed investment early 2009.

Podio got its first customers in August 2009, while still in stealth mode, since then Podio has been growing the customer base at a rapid pace. In August 2010 Tommy Ahlers joined the team as CEO, employee no 5, and investor.

Tommy Ahlers started ZYB in 2004 and sold it to Vodafone 4 years later in one of Denmark's most well-known exits. Since then he has been CEO of Wayfinder and head of LBS at Vodafone. Now he is CEO and investor of Podio.

Thomas Madsen-Mygdal, a leading danish tech founder, is the man behind several startups including Social Square, Reboot, and 23. He is also investor and chairman of Podio.

Green gold mining product wins grand prize

OroClean, a centrifuge for small scale mining, wins Venture Cup.

And the grand prize of 250,000 DKK.

OroClean's product eliminates the need for mercury in small scale mining. This improves the quality of the gold extracted which increases the sales price and thereby the profitability for the small scale miner.

If the product were to replace the current method of small scale mining on a grand scale it would cut 30 percent off the global mercury pollution.

Large acquisitions like Youtube or Doubleclick that place Google in a leading position they would have had difficulties achieving themselves.

#2 Insight Acquisitions
Bets on the future such as Android or Aardvark when innovation happens faster outside the company.

#3 Research & Development
Companies that have deep expertise in a specific field of technology.

Companies who have already shown results in a specific field Google is planning on going into.

Background
Anil Hansjee joined Google in 2006 as Head of Corporate Development for Europe, Middle East and Africa. Prior to joining, he was a Principal with the venture capital firm IDG Ventures, and board director of one of their portfolio companies, the mobile music company Shazam Entertainment.
